The Tremellales (Agaricomycotina, Basidiomycota, Fungi) are particularly diverse in terms of the variety of associations they can form with other organisms. They include saprotrophic yeasts, fungal-associated (including lichen-associated) species and animal (including human) pathogens. A better knowledge of their evolutionary complexity will be of broad scientific interest. Despite previous studies enlarging our understanding on their biology and evolution, there are still important questions requiring study in the group. Using target enrichment sequencing we plan to generate a comprehensive phylogenetic hypothesis of the Tremellales as a whole. We aim at investigating the evolution of their nutritional habits and at exploring their biodiversity and speciation modes, disentangling potential coevolutionary patterns and factors influencing specificity.
