Unravelling the impacts of multiple stressors on fluvial ecosystems across temporal scales

Fluvial ecosystems contribute to human well-being by supporting essential natural processes and hosting diverse forms of life. However, the health of these ecosystems is increasingly threatened by pollution, habitat alteration and climate change. The TemporalStress project will study how seasonal, yearly and regional differences influence the combined effects of these pressures on stream life and ecosystem functioning. By analyzing biodiversity and ecosystem functions across 35 Iberian streams over three years, the project will identify the mechanisms that help rivers maintain their functions and services and will provide knowledge to guide conservation and restoration efforts.
