The Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC, of the Council, 21 May 1992) aims to ensure the conservation of Habitats of Community Interest at a favourable conservation status, within an ecological network of protected areas created for this purpose. Such favourable status implies that their natural distribution areas are stable or expanding, that their specific structure and functions can continue to exist in the foreseeable future, and that the conservation status of their typical species is favourable. In recent years, the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has progressively standardized and formalized the procedures for monitoring and assessing the conservation status of each habitat type at national and biogeographical region levels. The objective of the project is to provide specialized technical assistance to improve the existing standardized procedures in order to enable the monitoring and assessment of the conservation status of Community habitat types dominated by non-riparian woody species present in Spain.
