I am a botanist specialized in pteridophyte systematics, with a particular focus on taxonomy and biogeography of several groups of ferns, especially the family Blechnaceae. In my research I combine traditional morphoanatomical techniques with genetic and genomic studies to elucidate the evolutionary relationships of different groups. In recent years, I have also worked on spatial phylogeny applied to conservation, and I am currently investigating the implications of polyploidy in niche segregation and the relative fitness of allopolyploid hybrids versus their diploid parents in a group of Iberian ferns. I am also committed to outreach and citizen science, participating in several science dissemination media and projects such as the Spanish Flora Bioblitz.
