Silvia Villegas Navarro
I am a biologist and the curator of the germplasm bank at the Real Jardín Botánico, CSIC in Madrid. My work focuses on the ex situ conservation of species belonging to the families Iridaceae, Amaryllidaceae and Liliaceae, as well as endemic and threatened species of the Iberian Peninsula. I am currently researching and developing new combinations of native Iberian flora species, with the aim of developing naturalistic planting designs from seeds that can be used in the green infrastructure of urban areas with a continental Mediterranean climate. The flora used is adapted to the extreme environmental conditions of drought and high temperatures.
