Sergio Álvarez Pérez
I am a mycologist and microbial ecologist. Currently, my research focuses on the yeast communities inhabiting floral nectar and their interactions with their host plants, the animals that visit flowers, and other co-occurring microorganisms. I also study the possible impact of agricultural fungicides on these yeast communities. Besides, I also have extensive experience studying various fungal pathogens of mammals, birds, and other animals, as well as fungal systematics and taxonomy. My ultimate goal as a scientist and educator is to promote a holistic and multidisciplinary understanding of mycology.
