Miguel Ángel Olalla Tárraga

I am an ecologist who combines ecoinformatics techniques, field studies, and laboratory work to understand the distribution of biodiversity on the planet and contribute to its conservation. I have over 20 years of teaching and research experience at institutions in Spain, the USA, the UK, and Brazil. After earning a PhD with Extraordinary Distinction from the University of Alcalá (UAH), I was a Marie Curie research fellow at Imperial College London, a lecturer at UAH and the National University of Distance Education (UNED), and since the age of 39, I have held the position of Full Professor at Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC), where I lead a High-Performance Research Group in Biogeography and Global Change. I regularly publish in high-impact scientific journals, have accumulated over 5,000 citations (h=36), and am included in the 2024 ranking of Best Scientists in Ecology and Evolution. I have led numerous national and international projects, organized research expeditions in Antarctica for a decade, evaluated projects for multiple agencies, served as editor of Global Ecology & Biogeography, and supervised researchers from various countries, including five doctoral theses.
