Intensive agricultural practices aim to increase crop yields with minimal space use. The development of elite varieties with decreased non-edible biomass and increased edible biomass is the cornerstone of Green Revolution. These varieties have been developed with modern breeding methods that mimic ancient domestication in prioritizing desirable traits. The other side of the coin is that they lack important nutritional and resilience traits. MineCrop aims to explore the inadvertent loss of metal micronutrients (iron, copper, molybdenum, manganese and zinc) as a consequence of domestication.
