Javier Sánchez Hernández

I am a freshwater ecologist with a primary research interest in competitive interactions, biogeographic patterns in feeding, and feeding adaptations driven by global change. My research focussed on a wide range of aspects of trophic ecology theory, including ontogenetic trajectories in feeding, individual niche specialisation, competitive exclusion, resource partitioning among sympatric species, and the exploration of competitive coexistence principles to understand stability and functioning of animal communities and ecosystems.

Research lines:

  • Impact of global change on the structure and functioning of freshwater ecosystems.
  • Trophic ecology.
  • Fish ecology.
  • Stable isotopes as indicators of ecological processes.
  • Competitive interactions and resource partitioning.
  • Food-wed modelling.
  • Biogeographic patterns in fish feeding.
